Being on the coast, there's a sea breeze that makes the humidity bearable and it's more of a small town feel (since you don't want the big city) with lots of great art, festivals and other quality of life aspects (not counting the occasional hurricane).Sounds to me like you need a big ol' road trip to find the place that appeals to you most.

It's okay to price Ivy League that much higher or state school tuition hikes of 10-15% per year or private religious college at 3 times state schools...as long as the students can get the loans.
