Even SF, Seattle and Portland were never just about young, single hipsters.If Detroit is able to raze about half its buildings, creating substantial green space while arresting blight and increasing prices through restricted supply, while also addressing its schools in a meaningful way and becoming significantly less crime-ridden, it may well come back with a vengeance.If instead it makes some small progress on each of those fronts, it may come back in some small way.Either way, its days as a city of more than a million are almost certainly done.I take your point about local knowledge.
