And my current car unfortunately isn’t a big help either, because I kinda let myself get scammed as a dumb 18 year old.

I've never heard of somebody paying a fee before you even see the place, and I would tell anyone that it is more likely to be a scam. 

The other thing to keep in mind with self-showing lockboxes is that it's incredibly easy for someone use it as rent scam.

Be careful of marketing the property on your own, there are a lot of scams out there directed towards tenants.

I'm all for calling out scam artists and criminal and holding people accountable to ripping people off.... but tread lightly and be sure you are sticking up for the right person.

The FIRE movement is the biggest fallacy in existence and like you said, a giant echo chamber that will implode and then everyone will say they were scammed when they were just looking for a hack to retire early.
