They put a plastic kitchen table in the front yard. 

I do the following: plastic sheeting over studs; 30lb felt over that; cement board over that (bottom doesn't touch shower pan or tub by about 1/4" or so); thinset or mastic depending on the tile; caulk all seams.

Aloha,Unless you actually have a place to store them, I would say they would need to store them, wrapped in plastic or a tarp, out of harms way and re-install them at move out so you can confirm condition at that time.

Another form of plastic pipe is CPVC.
