I think the wood, contact cement, and Formica ultimately result in around $7-$8 a square foot, but it does take time to build.

Most homes out there are built from cement block rather than stick builds like in California. 

Work includes:- Obtain necessary permits- Remove concrete where needed for excavation- Excavate along the basement foundation wall and haul away soil- Remove the existing drain tile line and downspout line- Once the foundation wall has been exposed, cement parging will be used on any areas of foundation where the block isexposed.

(I'm currently quoted at $325 per SFT for a 2 story, 30K for architect and permit plans, and 30k extra for cement excavation.

Cement board or JP Smart is a better choice.

Have you considered sliding glass patio type doors with a cement slab patio.
