I'm currently located in Ashburn, VA but my market is not suitable for investing as the median house price $442,485.

My wife and I are laying the groundwork to start a new career as real estate investors.

btw, I think there's a couple of BP podcasts of young guys who bought a house to stay in during their college and it was a great springboard for their investing careers.  

Relationships are important and burning any bridges in the beginning of a career is a recipe for a short career.  

I am currently serving in the Arizona Army National Guard and will be ending my 9 year career in December.

I have sold my primary residence and using cash savings and equity (approx $200k usd) from that to start my investing career here. 

Background: I got into real estate after finding myself homeless having been laid off of my job at a religious organization serving people, (I left my corporate career to do so and made less than $9,000 per year). 

I have a steady income as a employee at Costco but, I don't want to be there forever so I'm not sure if I should start a career in real estate as a broker or an investor first?

Our goal is to increase our net worth, to help supplement retirement income down the road and to currently provide a stream of cash flow to enjoy some of the finer things in life.We both work full time in professional careers and have so far found a way to manage careers and the real estate business while keeping up with two kids (15 yrs & 20 Yrs old).
