A modern, poured basement can easily be finished and waterproofed IF constructed correctly.  

It looks industrial/modern.

We have also used Ikea cabinetry in a couple of kitchens (and baths) where we have wanted to blend modern into older homes (Victorian in our case).

The inquires I get from AirBnB are more of the millennial crowd"The user interface of the 2 platforms, vrbo being old tech (middle aged people won't even notice and don't care, millennials can't bear it :) ) and airbnb on the contrary new with a modern behavior or even language is a perfect match for them. :)

That could be a good compromise between the keeping and getting something more modern.

I want a modern makeover on budget, just like the kitchen as well.
