Landscaping is a good example - we eliminate flower beds, anything that needs regual maintenance, often remove some of the trees (think leaves), favor evergreens over seasonal plants, boxwoods and globular arbs are our favorite for along the front and mulch beds get replaced by stone.

Sometimes it is more efficient to keep a central heating plant (gas fired), but that really depends on the building envelope.In our buildings where utilities are already separated, we have been moving towards ductless mini-split heat-pumps as the primary means of heating (6-7 months/yr) and cooling (2-months/yr).
