So in terms of funding your own deals, I would look into managing the sub-contractors (plumbers, electricians, etc) as an owner builder if Cleveland would allow it.

We just closed on our first multi a month or so ago and was wondering if anyone in the Chicago market has a lead on a solid electrician who has experience working in older buildings.

I’ve already contacted a Mortage lender to start talking and already have some networking with some real estate agents as I’m a local electrician that works with agents to help with closing time.

After that look for a good electrician, hvac, plumber, and appliance person. 

Find a handyman, plumber and electrician and then it’s just one call for an issue.

All the best handymen, electricians, and plumbers get hired onto larger projects so resources are constantly being sucked away. 

Work on getting your "network" of trades (handyman/contractor, electrician, plumber, hvac, etc.) together so you can handle getting stuff repaired/replaced. 

I prefer welders, pipefitters, boilermakers, electricians and inspectors. 

Talk to plumbers, handyman, electrician, hang out at lowes, home depot, not sure if ridout is up there, Ace, etc. talk to any one old and buying parts and tell them what you are looking for and you will find someone.

If old location recommend you have an electrician do an inspection.
