(side note, i am much younger than my profile pic makes me look :) but now its all about speculation, riding the price up and up, when in fact you can manipulate its price if you control enough of it, and nobody knows who controls what.And yes, you can spend it by going through several steps, and I am sure you can find other bitcoin aficionados that will accept it directly.
