They both get a tremendous amount of blame for that (though Obama gets all the current blame), and I have a feeling the next President or two will continue to sweep the real economic issues under the rug -- nobody seems to want to make the hard decisions that involve purposefully keeping us in a recession for a long time in order to fix the underlying economic issues.Gotta run...have to get my nanny to turn off Fox News...don't want to be an accessory to funding terrorism!

See if you can find one with an already built, permitted, accessory apartment (in law) with its own entrance, sufficient parking etc...and I think just to defray the mortgage and learn about landlording it may work out.

“For an accessory dwelling unit described in subdivision (e), a local agency, special district, or water corporation shall not require the applicant to install a new or separate utility connection directly between the accessory dwelling unit and the utility or impose a related connection fee or capacity charge.”PG&E cannot legally require a meter if the ADU/JADU is being built in an existing structure.

Either the owner takes risk by converting the 5th unit to an accessory use or you take the risk by, for example, increasing your non-refundable security deposit so s/he can convert it prior to close w/o financial risk in case you don't close.At the end of the day, these are the costs of putting yourself in situations where you're not following all rules.
