-I didn't find out until after I'd purchased the home that this neighborhood is one of the worst Superfund sites in the US for soil contamination (lead and arsenic mostly from the old smelters).

Sadly, this is not an older home - it was built in an area known for goofy soil conditions. 

It was leaking into an area underneath the stairs leading up to the apartments and just sitting there smelling the laundromat up.

There is a lot of REI material (online and courses) that insist that people don't want to live in 'renovated' space ... because it makes them think that underneath that good-looking kitchen or bathroom, there's a really awful kitchen or bathroom hiding (or at the very least, it was recently a wreck).  

.- Fix the remainder of the damaged exterior window trims- Some touch up painting- Install door bells- Put on house numbers- Replace bit of shingles on top of bay windows by kitchenInterior:- Drywall patching/painting on ceilings and walls- Remainder of cabinets- Flooring for upstairs- Install all new light fixtures- Install new doors for upstairs- Replace/match base trim where adjustments had been made- New door knobs- Curtain rods & curtains- Removal of carpet in living room (kept there for now as it's protecting the HW floor underneath)- Lots of cleaningThere was someone who flew into Milwaukee from California this week and yesterday I took them on a tour of this house. 

If they come underneath the over hang, the noxious noise will start playing. 

Currently has an ugly commercial drop ceiling installed - how we decide to tackle that one will depend on what it looks like underneath.

Is there a carrier beam with support posts underneath this first level floor which aligns with this wall. 

@George C. the 5th unit, is in bad shape structurally, the basement underneath which is seperate has gotten a lot of water underneath, and continues to, so that will have to be attended to and then waterproofed somehow, as well as the subfloor replaced due to it having lots of water damage and mold.

Here in so cal before we can take dirt (soil) to a landfill, we have to have soils testing done on it and submit beforehand!
