"The couple — described by a former employee as “the Brooklyn Heights Bonnie and Clyde” in an article in The Cut outlining their alleged slumlord behavior — are now facing civil penalties for alleged unlawful eviction, tenant harassment and a slew of construction code violations.

I already sent intent to occupy (60 day notice) on 9/3/20 and Unlawful Detainer on 10/19/20.

· SB 5160 mandates that all tenants have access to state funded counsel in an unlawful detainer, automatically seals court records, and increases the filing fee for unlawful detainers  These two policies will have a devastating effect on small housing providers who are already strapped financially from increasing costs and missing income in 2020.

I can't recall a single law created to punish tenants that fail to pay rent, shut off communication, sneak in three dogs or six family members, physically destroy a property, etc. 

I do think that landlords who are really negligent and create safety issues should be punished, and we do have some of those here.

Too many city governments hate landlords and are willing to punish the poor and middle class renter to prove it  When a “balanced market” is 180 day supply and we’re at 10-20 day supply. if 2 or 3 times all the homes currently on the market suddenly came on the market I think you’d be lucky to slow the price increases.

That is why we need to change the law in Missouri - I just received notice from the Ohio REIA that one of their state legislators had introduced legislation to make it unlawful for a city owned utility to charge the owner for the tenants unpaid bill. 

Lying on a state document is a class B Felony in GA punishable by 3 years in the state slammer.Go for it.

I've never understood why they punish the landlords and put us at risk. 

After this, I am hoping and praying that Jill Berg and Robert Berg get. the punishment they deserve.
