If you stick with real estate, this particular tenant will be one you remember as changing you from  compassionate to dispassionate.

I fully agree that its important to be compassionate but what about the owner that needs to pay a mortgage!

I also believe my unique perspective would bring a better informed but compassionate reality to people in distressed situations who can't seem to budge from wanting to keep their home when it's not possible.

Again if I lived next door to this person I would initially be very compassionate.

Then one of the babies learned how to move around and fell down one of the wall cavities between studs on an exterior wall.So... obviously I'm a compassionate guy and would like to help it.. but more so, I don't want it dying and smelling up my office.

Treat them honestly and compassionately, and it usually works out!!!

The business side of me says that the long term lease is the better option, the compassionate side of me wants to offer my home out to a qualified tenant who has lost everything.

While I appreciate your "caring", simply put, that caring will get you eaten alive in this business....you can be compassionate and caring without going bankrupt.

This subject sucks, but like anything else, compassionate but firm is probably the way to sort through it all.
