As a good listener and fast learner, you're probably better off starting right here on BiggerPockets with the Podcast episodes, the Blog posts, and the Forum.My best advice is to keep your eyes open for opportunities, learn from everyone, and keep your wallet closed for as long as you can!

The VAST majority however will be the gurus, so watch your wallet!

Remember, financing options are available for strapped wallets you just have to be creative and discuss you goals with local banks (or other investors as you are on here).Good luck on your adventure from a local hopeful investor and fellow engineer. 

Others may disagree but I still prefer leverage with a fat wallet to back it up... make sense?

Talk to my dad (who is experienced in construction and repairs) to get a feel for how much upkeep/repairs would cost and/or go to Home Depot or other hardware stores to scope around and talk to people.Get a preapproval for a loan in September or October, depending on the lender.
