I recommend folks take a few minutes and check out the Palmer Park, Boston Edison and Indian Village neighborhoods of Detroit on Google Street view ... example here: http://goo.gl/maps/HDN8T Amazing homes and many that can be had for a fraction of other areas of the country.

You need to clarify that with the assesor in the township/city/village it is in.Last year we bought a property that had a homestead on it and after talking with the assesor I waited to close until January 2 to keep the homestead for the rest of the 2012 tax year.
