If you get the loan in LLC to start with then you are set, but you will have to either get a 5-7 yr balloon OR pay a higher rate for a 30 yr fixed residential portfolio loan.You can also protect yourself with a good size umbrella insurance.Good luck.

On top of the units that I own, my family has over 100 rental units in Central MA and all are self-managed, but we also have a construction company and de-leading company under the umbrella, so it's been a vertically integrated sort of deal since I was young.
