If someone with a conviction from 10 years ago that was non-violent, and not related to drugs or a sex crime - then they are a protected class.

If you need to see what he's paying her, the more tactful way to ask for page 1, the last page signed, and then the page that deals with support (versus the whole 20-30 page doc that may go over how they will deal with sex tapes and how his affair lead to the divorce.. etc).

You are correct about Baltimore and other areas in that the landlord is responsible for screening the prospective tenant for criminal record, sex offender, etc...

It's important to look at a nationwide report because they might have been convicted of an offense or be on a sex offender list in another county or state and you deserve to know that before renting to them.Another powerful screening tactic is to get an address history report so you can compare their actual residential history with what they claim on their application.
