If I was evaluating that property, a couple of things would stand out: I agree the 5" slab probably isn't sufficient given the potential for freezing and movement under the slab.

It sounds like we'll be trying to keep the property in perpetuity, and then ultimately pass it on through inheritance.

I see a lot of people say they want to go local, and while I understand the sentiment, one of the biggest myths I see perpetuated in lending, or insurance, or appraisers, etc. is that local is better.
