My question is how do I know that they actually passed the permit inspections?

Only one of the 2 units got a STR permit. 

We have not been able to rent due to permitting issues.

Whether it's checking the permit status at the AHJ, notifying us to send an annual rent increase notice, collecting tenant insurance, etc.

It seems that most areas are not zoned for STR's and most permits are taken.
