For pre screening are you simply looking at income, debts, employment etc? 

I'm looking at flood zones, population growth/decline, crime rate, the economic trends and future or current incentives for development in the area, what the biggest employers are, Zillow for rental comparisons, and property pricing.

If you did, why would the PMC want to be responsible for their employment, possible unemployment claims, etc.?

The reason for this being that most lenders see travelers as unstable because we change jobs every 13 weeks, our income often varies, and we often have gaps in our employment between contracts to travel, be around family, ect.

How about employment?

Mostly, you’ll be renting to local residents (some of whom may be employed by the university), but they’re not paying the rents that students are.

@Robin Roundtree- thanks ....if you move - will your husbands  income /  employment be able to  continue ?   

For me, I prefer to physically visit the different neighborhoods in the area that I plan to buy in as well as look at online crime & census tools (employment, pop. growth)
