Depending on the size of the roof I'll either use a bubbler, which is a little plastic cap that rises when the water comes out and seals shut when it's done, or I'll put it in an actual drain bucket with a removable clean-out grid on top - this type is more useful if there's a lot of trees and debris that gets washed out of the roof and gutters.PS: If I "hired" someone to do that job and that's what he gave me I wouldn't pay for it.

You definitely need to remove that and any rubber or plastic components while soldering anywhere near the valve.

You can save money by installing all plastic shower pans and plastic walls, but being a plumbing contractor we encounter cracked shower pans almost every day and we encounter the drains leaking in plastic shower pans because when people stand on shower pans the plastic flexes and the drain strainers loosen causing significant damage.

I had my concrete guys bring over 3 bails of hay that we needed for erosion control instead of paying them to spread it I did it myself :) and instead of paying someone to pick up the trash the subs leave at our projects I grabbed the big plastic bags and walk around and pick it up myself.. that saves me the high dollar laborer and I get to look at every corner of the new build or lots we are working on..
