I just helped a couple buy a home in Murray, just next to the I-215 entrance. 

I want to purchase a rental that is currently set up for a rental of 3 floors all separate entrances 3 meters 3 electric meters I would like to purchase the property but was told by town this can only be turned back into a single family homeI would like to purchase it and keep it a rentalDoes anybody know how to get the town to let the property be kept a rental or any adviceThanksJohn

We like a home with a second entrance to a basement apartment.

So for that buyer segment, an official ADU isn't necessarily required but a suite with a separate entrance on a different level is ideal. 

I am not confusing the system.As I said, they can work for small buildings, particularly where each unit has their own external entrance(s).  

Basement w/ sep entrance, Attic and Garage are finished and within the conditioned space for optimal comfort.

I believe code says you must have an "accessible route" connecting accessible entrances to public sidewalks, handicap parking spaces, bus stops, etc. 

There are two building entrances- 1st floor unit with garden access and 2nd/3rd floor unit. 

I have made some improvements to the property since I purchased it like putting in a driveway enough for 4 cars, 2 cars per unit, a nice stone wall as part of the entrance to the driveway.
