With all the stories we hear about how 'such and such made a ton of money in real estate', I'm sure she understands that if you devote your time and effort into becoming a real-estate baron, you will make a lot of money and be able to buy her whatever she wants.

Hi NIckit makes so much sense, dollar wise and mentally, to get in the game while you are young, and can devote time and energy into real estate.  

There are many times where people have devoted their life to making change and you can choose that route.

If you venture into Multifamily (Apartments)  there will be a "Learning Period" of some duration, and dependent upon how much effort and work you want to devote to learning the new skills and thought processes it will detract from your other stated objectives of devoting more time to your family.IMO - whatever you decide you'll succeed!
