I was able to get security lighting installed behind all our buildings a few months back, and have agreement from the Board to pursue a security camera system.

I feel I have learned enough about the inspection process, and have purchased some necessary tools (electrical tester, water pressure gauge, thermal image camera, etc..) to get the job done.No way I would try doing this myself without seeing the pros in action first.

I also highly recommend installing a camera (I use Foscam PTZ's, which I can view via my iPhone)... place one outside your front door and you can have a set of ears and eyes at your property.There are options for management such as "Pillow" which I have not personally utilized since they're somewhat of a competitor of ours, but they may be available in your area, and handle most of the overhead including cleaning of the unit.3.)

Some even go as far a tracing the lines with a camera.

I was so charged up about somebody calling me with a house to sell, I ran out of the house without my camera.

The same company came out and ran a camera through the line.

So mounting cameras outside would would be pretty brazen even at his own expense.

Consider camera scoping the sewer lateral.

Even if its an inexpensive set of wireless cameras with a cheap DVR - have something that gives you 5-7 days recording time, even at 5 second increments.
