If you get your own license you will need to work for a brokerage.

I don't mind putting in the work, but naturally having a 9-6 to be able to feed my family, I don't foresee any brokerage letting me work on weekends or just nights.Is this assumption incorrect? 

Or I still need to hang my license in one of the brokerage houses to do transactions? 

Again, this is somewhere you'll need to be buttoned up - commercial mortgage brokerage firms (full disclosure, I own one) exist for this reason.

We use this for all of our applicants at my brokerage because of the low cost - $40.00 per person.

@Bryce Spraggins Budget for your RE license too, costs are about $1200 a year, even putting it with a brokerage.

I do so because selling houses is an entirely different business than being in the brokerage business.
