We have a rental in a tropical area that is naturally humid and making it even more humid, our property is next to a pond.

Unless they place it where the humidity could do some damage.  

So, I've left the windows open, AC off (mid 80's and humid), and have applied a heavy dose of Odoban every three hours.  

And you can deny their request as being unreasonable - that people who use MJ are likely to smoke it, and are permitted to grow it, and having a grow operation in your home will make it smell and create humidity, etc., etc.And then, they'd have to actually file a complaint with HUD for discrimination, and that process takes a year - while they are not living in your unit.  

It's 85 and humid here outside.

I'm a mutt- business owner, RE investor, property manager, business consultant, pilot Hawaii has better weather than CA. 73-86F year round, low humidity.

The only areas where this can not look great is if the paneling type is cheap and has warped from humidity.
