An example is a doctor or lawyer who make sufficient income but have a lot of write offs, and/or a business owner who has sufficient income but lost some spec lots during the real estate meltdown and has foreclosures on his credit.

However, asking about my career and investment decisions, let alone expecting their support and approval, would be unwise.they might tell me I shoukd have been a doctor instead of a Bottomfeeding Opportunist. 

People go to college to learn how to become a professional doctor, or CPA, or biologist etc...consider finding some sort of actual education for real estate.
