I'm going to see tomorrow if I can use steel wool to salvage some solid wood oak cabinets that are not in bad condition.

I live in a $750K fixer house with the original 1920s oak floors.  

They will be pushed to certain sections of the City.You will see some inner-ring suburbs Southfield, Oak Park, Redford basically get flooded.

My parents still live in Escondido "Oak Hill" area.  

Oak park is right there so that's my assumption.

No one who lives on a small city lot really wants to go to the mess and expense of getting rid of a problem tree, so if it's a maple or an oak, it just grows and grows and grows...Because the repair runs in the thousands (as you've seen) when the owner of an aging investment property learns that they have a compromised sewer line, there's a strong impulse to hide the defect and sell.

I work the near southwest suburbs near the Oak Park/Berwyn area.

As far as this neighborhood goes, it's oak park.

But be like Abe and sharpen your ax perfectly before you waste a lot time, energy and money trying to fell an oak with a dull axe.
