I'm not sure if the 249k is overspending for your area or not, but I would not volunteer my hard-earned 5k as a donation to a builder simply because of a fear of possible negative market factors.

I keep hoping someone would donate a house to me to grow my holdings and profits. 

In a moment of chivalry, I donated my work and time to flip a small apartment she owned, a place she could not unload at anything other than a major loss otherwise.

Also some appliances metal haulers will take, you can donate to habitat too.

They donated a part of the land and a house was built.

I realize come tax time, I will also have my interest, property taxes and other write offs like donations and such.

I will do consulting for BP folks and 100% of what I take in goes to charity and depending on what the person wants of me I will ask for donations that seems to work..
