@Matthew Odou Yes, Puerto Rico is a US Territory, same currency no passports required, most are pleasantly surprised that its like a Hawaii in the Caribbean but the cost of living is less and real estate prices are like 2008-so now a there a lot of expats and investors of all ages taking advantage.

He recommended an attorney and mortgage guy, so now I just finished submitting all the paperwork( so much freakin paperwork. all my bank statements, 2 years of W-2, IRS, passport photo, driver's license photo, i was a bit slow with this and took me over a week). waiting to hear back, see what my max on my pre-approval is.

I never take anything with me to leave in the states, I never work on the property (though I can), I always have my passport out and I am polite to the officer (never hurts to be nice).Coming back, I either have nothing to declare or am well below the limits.
