Strangely enough this one was not an ancient home either (built in the late 70s) and is worth pretty good money (150's now, was 200's at one time).

@Brian Nordman Banks don't like blowing the dust off ancient comps but I have seen them do it. 

@Nita Martin I agree with everything above: you definitely need to dial in your rehab estimate (and then double it for unexpected issues that are bound to crawl out from under the ancient floorboards).

But here's the problem: they all concern historical buildings (I invest in Europe, ancient cities like Maastricht and Liège).These will require a lot of renovations to get them up to speed with the new EU energy-efficient requirements and such.

Both heating units were ancient; in fact, the first floor unit was being heated by the original boiler, which belonged in a museum.

By the time you have signed all the title docs you will probably have indemnified the insurance folks of all liability except for the most obscure and rare clauses i.e. someone has some ancient mineral rights to the land.
