Tourists could just get a time share and buy their own towels and furniture, but who wants to do that for two weeks out of a year for every possible destination?

In terns of areas that are 2nd home destination type places the local community at least where I have looked does not drive the market.  

Do you think the Destin inventory will bounce back after high season?

If I were an out of state investor who wanted to get into short term rentals I'd be looking at popular vacation destinations.

The goal has to have a finite destination and time limit on it.For example you may say your goal is 20 houses in 20 years (paid off) earning $20,000 per month.. (20,20,20 goal).Now you know where you're going and the timeframe for this to happen.

I know some folks are fans of Branson, Destin and Myrtle Beach. 

I do believe as far as places of destination for vacations Big Bear is a good location, as I know many people in Los Angeles that go every year.
