But to be transparent, my properties have never been more then a 2-3 hour drive from me either...but I know several out of state STR owners who are happy to just fly in if there are any issues so long as it's only a 2-3 hour flight.   

I think they all hopped on a secret SpaceX flight or something.

Flights from GSP to ATL are inexpensive and as the flight duration is only about 40 mins, there is no reason you cant be in greenville within 6 hours parking at ATL   That being said,  Fix-and-flip properties are a good choice here, but if you are looking for buy and hold and 100k,12 month lease rental properties is your thing, Greenville is for you. 

It is fight or flight instinct and sometimes we choose flight. 

We live in the property and rent out the other rooms to Flight Instructors since he's a Flight Instructor as well and get's asked all the time if he knows anywhere to rent.

Additionally factor in all the costs of flights, vehicle rentals, utilities, and your current rent+new mortgage.3.

The other thing that I think is a consideration is are there direct flights from where you live to the market that you are choosing to invest?
