That said, charging you a different amount than invoice (plus a reasonable and verifiable and disclosed mark-up of 5-10%) is gangster-esque, IMO.  

We also use it to compare rents and verify what's a good price.

What documents do they require, what credit scores do they allow, how do they verify previous rental history, etc.?

There's no need to wait six months - while they continue smashing the car - just to stand in front of a judge and prove ownership.If someone enters a home and the homeowner calls the police to report a crime, police can quickly verify ownership and remove the illegal occupant.

Hard money lenders are also going to verify the rehab budget and ARV - so having them vet your deal and put another set of eyes on it will be beneficial to you.
