Ones that small a shovel you should be able to cut through the roots and dig out.You said 1/2 inch to 2 inch diameter.Those are really small.If you had something big like a full blown tree stump you could put a chain around it with a truck and pull it out or just rent a stump grinder and use it for mulch.

Your example does not look appealing to me.At the root of the problem is most likely two fundamental issues:1) Unrealistic criteria about what makes a deal for investors in your area.2) Insufficient deal flow to select opportunities from.
