I'm sure I'm not reinventing the wheel here so if it's allowed to be done I'm sure it's been tried and I'd like to hear what kind of results others have seen from an approach like this.

On the other hand I run into limitations with E&O insurance and I'd have to re-invent the wheel as I have no path to follow.

So you'll need to set this up as a partnership where you own part of the deal or something similar...Don't re-invent the wheel here.
