Backsplash cost about $150 in materials and $125 labor for the install.  

If you can even do new counter tops/backsplash in kitchen, refinish the cabinets and remodel the bathroom you can often see a several times over return on that basic remodel from a sales standpoint.

Example, find a tile supplier and ask them what would be a safe budget for tile backsplash and install. 

Perhaps new countertop and delete that dated backsplash. 

Think tile back splashes.

And if you put it in before the countertop, the next guy will want to hunt you down when it comes time to replace the dishwasher as he'll have to tear up the countertop and backsplash to remove the dishwasher.Also, walls and floors are never plumb, level, or straight.

We then use our wet saw and take the 12 by 12 tiles and cut them to subway size and use as the back splash.

My choice would have been a glass backsplash over the vinyl wallpaper. 

I already purchased the backsplash but now having second thoughts on using it.

I also pick one "big" improvement" maybe cabinets, flooring, lighting, bathroom, or tile backsplash.
