I'll just add that squirrels particularly like to bring in outside debris and make a mess, PLUS eat through things like wire coating and dig through insulation.

I found the most cost effective method was to purchase the unfinished cabinets at Lowes or Home Depot and put several coats of stain on them.

If not you may be able to skim coat plaster, it depends how bad it is and it can be pretty bad and still repaired.

Ben SkoveIf you are going paint the floor, check to see if it is "level enough" first that it can be finished w/o the need for a coat of self-leveller ... as cement does not bound well to a painted floor.We are dealing with a painted floor at the moment - the vendor thought he was doing us a favour and painted it battleship grey prior to close.
