Usually a sponsor should be responsive within a few days, usually quicker when you have follow-up questions. 8-day delay without any update can be concerning.

Haven't been following this 21 page thread much, so someone please update me. 

Ask your GC for periodic updates to make sure everything is on schedule and to be able to know when something will set you back.
