I would emphasize starting out by learning as much as you can through the Bigger Pockets podcasts.

Also in the beginning I travelled more than I like from NYC to NC but now I have my system in cruise control..I'm not deterring you from going w a turn key provider, the way I did it was hard I learned a lot by trial and error and I guess with a good turn key provider I emphasize on "good" it would have helped with my growing pains but I dont regret it.
