In order to invest in a place where appreciation is a big factor, you would need to accumulate several years of savings because property in those areas are much more expensive that 36K.I admire your conviction though and if that is your path then by all means stick to it.

I admire your parents for being very frugal and love the fact they won't buy anything unless it's heavily discounted  or  a tremendous value, because that's how I usually live my life.

I think it is admirable your intentions; that said, you have to consider how a misstep in this area could compromise your ability to share your good fortune in other areas.
