Basement water infiltration is an issue however, just because you have efflorescence stains on the wall (usually bottom of wall where it meets the foundation floor) it doesn't mean water infiltrates.

I would assume since carpet is stain resistant and low-porous that it may be difficult to stain.

The unfinished have a classic raised panel - so you can replace it easily in the future if necessary - and can either be sprayed, stained, or just poly'd (which is usually what we do) which is super easy to spot repair in the future.
