Is it true that in cold environments some tenants of old houses will board a window for insulation purposes?

I chose CBC because the environment is great and they have a great outdoor patio.

I wasn't raised in the kind of environment that instills that type of knowledge, but I'm trying to correct that now.I'm completely ignorant to all of this stuff, and I could use some advice on how to find a home.

They will always be higher than a mortgage would be so in high interest rate environments they would get really expensive really quick.

They are insanely  expensive,  outside of london does present a few opportunities but  recent changes in regulations has created an extremely unfriendly environment for small investors. 

Have you seen those micro storages I was up in BC ( British Columbia) fishing a few weeks back and saw a big billboard advertising micro storage.. and I have seen that In my travels to Europe.. that's an interesting concept for urban environment.

How does anyone make any money, in the current environment of low cap rates, where finding an 8 cap is not easy, with 8% interest rates? 

If you have a few vacancies with 3-4 doors that would be bad.With the current rising interest environment right now and NO experience doing commercial Apartment complexes (being a newbie), I would just get 2 or 3 front doors with that $100,000 right now and keep that $15,000-$20,000 in reserves too.Swanny

@Charlie MacPherson I'm definitely open to other areas that are more target rich environments.

My other option is to own my primary free and clear, but 4% savings in a 3% inflationary environment is idle cash indeed.
