I agree that a 2-1 is not hugely popular, but for a young newly married couple on the Westside of Northern VA, it would definitely be a viable option, assuming we "modernized" the home a bit.

@Donald Crockett, research trenchles line replacement, pipe bursting, pipe lining... modern day processes are pretty cool and much less invasive.

You may or may not be able to get the relay by itself as a service part; you might have to replace the whole board.Either a classic or modern dryer will have a "high limit" thermostat or thermal fuse. 

Live in an old building that doesn't support modern technology whatsoever.

Unless the house is being designed with a more modern or loft-type feel, I would just go with a standard wood railing.
