Interview a bunch of different contractors so you get the feel for what the contractors in your area generally focus on.

This time around many people are no longer applying for traditional jobs interviewing all over the place.  

Plus interviewing tenants, working with repairmen etc.Last thing - no real need for a local tax accountant these days of technology.

@Nick Thurston As Joe said it's best to do multiple interviews with different firms to find what is best for you.

I check my tenant's social media first after our initial phone interview. 

Start by reviewing everything under the Education section and listening to podcast interviews.

Not entirely sure if flying out specifically for property managers would be too much assuming one can successfully interview management firms over the phone with a call or two rather than needing to in person.  

Treat it like you're interviewing them on their tactics - because maybe you are.
