This house has a lot of sharp lines and a few plants will 'soften' the look just a bit.The wrought iron handrails tend to fade into the background- I would replace them with thicker wooden handrails for a bolder statement and paint them to match the trim.

In my example, I'd make the range area thicker and put seats in the living room facing into the kitchen as a breakfast bar.by the top door I'd try to see if you can fit: fridge, tiny counter, sink, corner cabinet.turn the corner to: dishwasher, then range, then storage cabinet.

It is an older home in an older neighborhood, so I think other houses probably also have thicker thresholds in places too.I could save some money and lessen the height difference by putting in an engineered wood floor, but then the finish won't match with the rest of the house (not to mention I don't think it is as good of a product).

I don't know if I'd want to risk doing tile again with smaller or thicker tiles, and later be kicking myself if the tiles or grout lines started cracking again.
