I'm sure the writer wasn't trying to be disingenuous, but since the original question was posed by @Brookshire Harris, who I presume is new to all these systems, it's important that we are precise in our comments.

That was an article written by a phantom writer, not someone with professional experience in REI.  

It takes less that 5 minutes on google to find out that a story about "growing up in the country and looking for land on which raise your own family" is a total fabrication and that the letter writer is a realtor.

Agents are the ever optimist when penning a listing and use almost as much cliché & spin as a political speech writer.  

Some write simply to help others, some write really to subtly or not so subtly market their products, turnkeys or other services.  

Direct mail has to be repetitive over time and I spent my budget on a "golden letters" campaign (on the advise from some dinosaur at my market center whose "mastermind" classes I will never attend again), didn't have budget or writer's cramp resistance to keep up with that over time.
