You can "test" the yellow letter, but personally a nicely laid out business letter is better.It is important what you say and how you say it: also something that draws the recipient attention on the envelope is important.You have to strike a chord with them - if you are sending letters to people in preforeclosure, be understnading of their situation, without patronizing.

If that particular voter is well known and voted on a post topic that is in their expertise, or a thread starter who may be a rookie and voted for a post who gave a great answer to their question, wouldn't both the voter want everyone else to know they appreciated the response and wouldn't the recipient of the vote want to know when his/her post was voted for/appreciated?
