It just seems completely artificial to me, fueled by out-of-state transplants going to work in Plano, and low rates.All that said, I am still very new at this and I am probably missing various opportunities in DFW.

My hopes are to rent out the other 2-3 units and live rent free.

Hi All,I'm a newbie looking to purchase an apartment building not so much as an investment, but as a place of residence where I can potentially live rent free.I see no reason to go small, so I was hoping to obtain a building of 8 units and up.

We now live rent and mortgage free with no debt (other than our loans on investment properties).  

I'm also very interested in purchasing a multi family property in the near future so my wife and I can live rent free.I look forward to the lessons to be learned both here on BP and in the real world, as well as the exciting relationship opportunities to be found in this community.

Thankfully, if my lease expires, I have the potential to live rent free for a short period by staying at a friends/local family place while the process wraps up!

It's a good property if you're looking to live rent free (or almost) and have someone pay your mortgage.

(It'll also allow me to live rent free)I believe certain mortgage, such as the 203k, require you to live in the residence for a set amount of time.

. - @Zachary Hendricks is correct that you can get less than 25% down pay for a duplex if you plan to liver there.

I am a transplant from the Bay Area as well and have been living in Austin a year now.
